Guns N’ Roses have now officially confirmed Isaac Carpenter as their new drummer, replacing Frank Ferrer, the longest-tenured percussionist in the band.

Isaac Carpenter, 45, is best recognized for his 12-year stint with Duff McKagan’s Loaded, which he performed from 1999 to 2011. Apart from that, Carpenter has also been a member of the rock band Awolnation since 2014, lending his drumming talents to their high-energy sound. He also became well-known for his stint drumming for Adam Lambert’s Glam Nation Tour from 2010 to 2012, when Lambert toured as the lead singer for Queen.

Ferrer’s exit was announced earlier this week, and Isaac Carpenter now assumes the seat behind the drum kit for Guns N’ Roses. The move is a milestone for the legendary band, which has had its share of drummers over its rich history.

In their statement, Guns N’ Roses described Carpenter as “an accomplished American drummer and songwriter known for his dynamic contributions to alternative, hard rock, and beyond.” Carpenter, born in Washington’s Tri-Cities, began his musical journey at a young age. In 1995, while still in high school, he co-founded the band Loudermilk, which later led to a signing with Rick Rubin’s American label.

Carpenter has had a long and diverse career working with a broad range of musical acts in both live shows and studio sessions. Along with his work with Duff McKagan’s Loaded, Awolnation, and Adam Lambert, Carpenter has worked with the hardcore metal band Barbarians of California. He has also collaborated with A Perfect Circle, The Exies, Ours, and Black Lab, solidifying his standing in various rock genres. Carpenter’s session work spills over into film and television soundtracks, supplementing his varied musical resume.

Appreciated for combining versatility and groove with uncompromising technical ability, Carpenter has built a reputation as one of the most energetic drummers in the business. His distinctive approach enables him to readily move between differing musical settings and yet retain a solid, commanding presence behind the drums.

Guns N’ Roses has had a long and storied history of drummers, each contributing their own personal stamp to the band’s sound. In addition to Frank Ferrer, former drummers include Rob Gardner, who played with the band in 1986, and Steven Adler, who played with the band from 1985 to 1990. Other significant drummers include Matt Sorum (1990 to 1997), Josh Freese (1997 to 2000), and Brian “Brain” Mantia (2000 to 2006).

With Isaac Carpenter on board, then, Guns N’ Roses fans have something to be excited about, as they can expect new energy and talent on the band’s future shows and albums. Carpenter’s capacity to deliver intensity along with precision on the drums heralds a new era for the iconic rock band, adding another chapter to their rich musical history.
