Get ready to journey back to Far, Far Away! Universal Pictures has just dropped the first teaser for “Shrek 5,” and it’s packed with ogre-sized surprises. The biggest reveal? Zendaya joins the beloved franchise as Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, confirming long-standing fan speculation and fulfilling the actress’s own childhood dream.

The teaser, released on Thursday, February 27th, sent Shrek enthusiasts into a frenzy. Shared across Universal’s social media platforms with the caption “Far, Far Away’s finest are coming,” the short clip showcases a delightful return to the familiar humor and charm of the original films.

The iconic magic mirror takes center stage, with Donkey posing the age-old question, “Who is the fairest of them all?” The reveal shows Shrek, Fiona, and their now-grown daughter, voiced by Zendaya, watching the scene unfold. The teaser also features a hilarious cameo from Pinocchio, whose nose grows comically long as he tells a fib, reminding audiences of the series’ signature blend of fairytale parody and heartwarming moments.

This announcement marks a significant moment for Zendaya, whose love for the Shrek franchise is well-documented. Back in 2017, she tweeted, “I watch Shrek too often in my adulthood,” a sentiment that has now come full circle. The official Shrek social media account playfully acknowledged her past tweet, responding, “This aged well,” cementing her place within the Shrek universe.

Of course, no Shrek film would be complete without its core cast. Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy are all returning to voice Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey, respectively, ensuring that the heart and soul of the franchise remains intact.

“Shrek 5” continues the legacy of a franchise that has captivated audiences for over two decades. The original “Shrek” (2001) won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, followed by the equally successful “Shrek 2” (2004), “Shrek the Third” (2007), and “Shrek Forever After” (2010). The world of Shrek has also expanded with spin-offs like the “Puss in Boots” films, further solidifying its enduring popularity.

With Zendaya’s addition, the return of the classic characters, and the promise of new adventures, “Shrek 5” is poised to be a major cinematic event.

Mark your calendars, as the film is set to hit theaters on December 23, 2026, promising a festive holiday season filled with ogre-sized fun.   Sources and related content
